not at all surprising

::sigh::

Burris now acknowledges fundraising effort for Blagojevich

So not surprising. I hope they kick his arrogant ass out of the Senate.

That appointment has stuck in my craw ever since it happened. But you know he won't resign. He had the gall to accept in the first place so he's not going to give it up easily.

At this point I'd rather have a republican in the office.

I HATE him. He was so arrogant about the whole thing. I would have signed up to campaign for whoever was running against him.

Yesterday a bunch of folks were coming to his defense claiming, "They didn't ask that question".

Um, What?! There was a ton of scandal surrounding this. By not saying anything it was at the very least a lie of omission.

I think that was probably going to happen anyway. But now I'd say it's definitely going to happen.

Exactly, Gatzy. It's the difference between answering questions honestly and being candid. Candor was the honorable thing to do.

But look at me, expecting a hack like Burris to act like a senator instead of a defendant.

You've been away from Illinois too long. The Republican party in Illinois is a joke. They had to import Alan Keyes to run a couple years back.

Though Mark Kirk is talking about running and he would be very appealing to a lot of voters.

Yeah, but I listen to WBBM every day. :-)

They recruited Keyes after Ryan's freakiness came out (although Mary says there's more to the story than what was reported, and I believe her) and Ditka decided it would be stupid to run for the first time against Obama.

But Obama got Peter Fitzgerald's old seat, right?

Mark Kirk seems like a smart guy, and seems to not be quite the Bible-thumping social conservative that would kill his chances of getting votes out of the city.

Yes, Obama got Fitzgerald's seat but Fitzgerald got in because so many people (myself included) hated Carol Moseley Braun. Fitzgerald retired because the National Republicans hated him. He voted what he thought was best and didn't always side with the Republican party.

The Republican Party also wasn't able to defeat Blago in either election. And the last one most people knew he was nuts and probably going to end up in jail yet we still voted for him because of the choice they came up with.

I like Mark Kirk for his stand on the environmental stuff with Lake Michigan and his feud with Wisconsin for dumping into the Lake. He seems like a moderate. But I really don't know enough about him.

Wisconsin dumping into the lake makes me mad, too.
