annual oscar poll

Okay, so this is the first year but whatever... I thought we could take a stab at predicting this year's Oscar winners. Play along if you'd like. Pick who you think will win and then who you think should win. And because its my poll, I'm letting you pick more than one person for who should win. Because sometimes, it is just too hard to make a decision.

I'm limiting it to the big categories because I'm lazy. Besides, I don't think Best Makeup is in doubt. I mean they made Brad Pitt look old and ugly and then drop dead gorgeous. I don't even really like him and I thought he looked fantastic. And I think the smart money is on the folks at Pixar for WALL-E.

Since marymary and I saw the Animated Shorts last week, I'm going to add that La Maison en Petits Cubes deserves to win the award. It was beautiful and you should go hunt it down and watch. (Though I LOVED the others especially This Way Up.)

Yeah, I've seen exactly nothing. In fact, now that I know a little bit more about the kid scenes in Slumdog, I probably wouldn't even go to see that one. I would Netflix Rachel Getting Married. If they were on cable or on demand, I would certainly watch Milk or Frost/Nixon or Button. Maybe Doubt. Not The Reader. NOT Changeling. I feel like I never have time to go see movies in a theater anymore. This is why I prefer the Emmys. :-)

But I saw La Maison en Petits Cubes!

The kid scenes were a little tough to take. Especially considering how adorable the kids were. But the movie was so good. I really hope it wins because it will be fun to see the kids from the slum up on stage.

Anne Hathaway was incredible in Rachel Getting Married. But there were several times in the movie when I felt so uncomfortable. I just wanted to shout SHUT UP. But thay was by design. Rosemarie Dewitt was stunning in that movie as well. Doubt was incredible. The performances by Meryl, Philip and Amy were stunning. A lot of times I think Meryl is a bit overrated. This was not one of them.

I still want to see Milk and Frost/Nixon.

I'm starting to get tired of watching really depressing movies so I'm not sure that The Reader and Changeling will be high in the queue anytime soon.

Yes, Rosemarie Dewitt is another draw. I definitely want to see that movie. *points to adorable RD co-star*

It was interesting, where you had no "haven't seen anything" option and I had to assume things. So, like, I think Ron Howard is the most accomplished director up there so maybe he actually did the best job. And I think PSH would totally win, minus Heath, but I think that's only because he's in a drama and RDJ is in a comedy. Based on not much info, I suspect that RDJ's is actually a more challenging and skillful performance. But drama > comedy, every time.

And I feel a lot of buzz around Viola Davis, so ???

Thanks for all the "I saw none of these" options, Gatzy. I saw "Wall-E" last year. That's it.

I prefer the Emmys, too. :-)
