this is beyond awful

All Free Library of Philadelphia Branch, Regional and Central Libraries Closed Effective Close of Business October 2, 2009

I love my library and go there about once a week or so. As a kid I spent every day at our local library after school waiting for my mom to pick me up on her way home from work. I helped out in the library.

I cannot fathom not having a library.

Know folks in Philadelphia? Here's how they can help.

I really, really hope this situation is resolved. People, especially kids, need libraries. They provide numerous services to the community.

That's terrible. :-(

That's one of the things that falls through the cracks - people moan and complain and refuse to vote for their taxes to be raised one single penny, but yet it doesn't occur to them that by being so stingy, they can kiss their libraries goodbye. 'Oh, I don't use the library, I'll just buy my own books', they think. But what about that kid over there who used to hang out and use the computers at the library - yeah, that one, with the can of spray paint in his hand. Your garage is looking mighty tempting.

And I could go on about job-seeking assistance, community quilting, bird watchers and stamp club meetings, etc, etc, etc.

People are so short-sighted and greedy. :-(
