mad men: "the gypsy and the hobo"

Episode 11? My how time flies.

Season 3, Episode 11: The Gypsy and the Hobo
A former client returns to Sterling Cooper.  Betty takes the kids on a trip.  Joan and Greg plan for their future.

Yay! Joan. I fear for Sally just reading the description of the episode. Poor Sally. (You just Betty will demonstrate her mother of the year qualities.)

I was at work during the 9 o'clock hour, so I couldn't quite hear the collective national cheer when Joan smashed the vase on Greg's head. But I'm sure there was one. :-) Actually, Greg? Joanie knows exactly what it's like to "want something your whole life, to count on it, to plan for it, and to not get it!"

And then, just when he's apologizing like an adult ... he's joined the Army. I couldn't tell if Joan was disappointed, happy or just stunned. Well, when he comes back from Vietnam in a body bag, she can start over with a man who deserves her.

I really liked the Joan/Roger interaction in this one. Roger may have been The One for Annabelle (in her eyes), but there seems to be a suggestion that, in Roger's mind, Joan may have been The One for Roger. Anyone else get that impression? Or are they just ex-lovers who still really like each other?

"Look at you, figuring things out for yourself!" Nice. :-)

It's hard to say - maybe a little of both? I think there have been other indications that Roger believes he made a huge mistake letting Joan go.

But on the other hand - some people are only The One when they're The One Who Got Away.
